Lincoln Financial Group - Profile

The donation from Lincoln's Community Partnership Programme (CPP), will fully fund a forthcoming 2-day mobility skills training course for wheelchair-using children and their families in Gloucester.  This donation will enable AWC to provide local wheelchair-using children the opportunity to develop their wheelchair-using skills and introduce the charity's services to the Gloucester area.

The CPP is Lincoln's charitable giving programme, investing in projects relating to arts, education and human services.

"The CPP has a dedicated committee who meet quarterly to consider application against our awards criteria".  Says Kathryn Folley, Lincoln Financial Group. "We want to make as much of an impact as possible with the donations that we make.  The CPP mirrors our US parents ‘Lincoln Foundation’, supporting projects and causes that are philanthropic in purpose. The CPP looks to enhance the quality of life in the communities where Lincoln has a presence. By helping people realise their full potential and improve the quality of life for many we want to show that Lincoln is a company interested in and committed to reinvesting in people. We made such an impact in 2002 that we won the Gloucestershire Citizens & Echo newspaper award for Contribution to the Community".

Meon Valley Golf Club nominates
The Association of Wheelchair Children
As its’ 2003 Charity of the Year

“Fundraising on behalf of the Association of Wheelchair Children (AWC) has been such fun for everyone at the golf club".  Says Liz Davidson, Ladies Captain of Meon Valley Golf Club. “Over the last 12 months we have all been busy thinking up ways of raising money for AWC, our nominated charity of the year. "This has been achieved through the usual raffles, auctions and the introduction of "fun fines" for assorted misdemeanours".

In December 2003, Fred Dinenage, the popular presenter of Meridian Tonight, accepted a cheque from members of the Meon Valley Golf Club for £4,092 on behalf of AWC.  A keen golfer himself, Fred is also a long standing Patron for AWC.  "I'm absolutely thrilled that everyone at the club has supported AWC so enthusiastically over the year. More importantly I'm pleased that the money raised locally will be spent locally" said Fred. All money raised will fund the cost of a 2-day wheelchair-training course enabling wheelchair-using children in Portsmouth & Southampton to become independently mobile.

The Association of Wheelchair Children would like to thank everyone, staff, players and visitors alike who have helped the Meon Valley Golf Club with their fundraising efforts this year. This has ranged from prize raffles, donated prizes and “fun fines” which brought a smile to everybody’s faces. The Club has enjoyed helping raise funds for their nominated charity Association of Wheelchair Children which has always been done with a smile and we are delighted to hear that our fundraising efforts have been rewarded with a wheelchair training courses which will shortly take place to help wheelchair using children become independently mobile.

Redrow Homes - In the Community.

House builder Redrow Homes (Scotland) is amongst one of several local companies to have funded towards the cost of a 2-day mobility skills training course run by the Association of Wheelchair Children for wheelchair-using children and their families in Glasgow.

It costs £500.00 to train a wheelchair-using child with the necessary skills, which will enable him/her to take a fuller and more active part in their everyday lives and become independently mobile. A lack of funding has meant that this has only been the second time in the charities history that we have been able to provide wheelchair training for children in the Glasgow area. We hope that this support will pave the way for offering even more children in Scotland the opportunity to benefit from our unique programme of mobility training courses in the future.

Managing Director Gordon Miller says: "We are delighted to help young children take an active part in every day living"

Stena Line Profile

Following requests from the local parents and paediatric physiotherapists in Galway, in May 2003 the Association of Wheelchair Children held a 3-day wheelchair training course for local wheelchair-using children, their families and physiotherapists. This training course enabled a further 14 wheelchair-using children to become independently mobile.

Stena Line the “worlds favourite ferry company” made this training course in Southern Ireland possible by donating the cost of ferry travel to enable the charity’s therapy team and stock of manual wheelchairs to travel from Holyhead to Dunleary.  Stena Line are happy to support the work of Association of Wheelchair Children with wheelchair-using children in Ireland through this gift in kind and are always pleased to make arrangements for anyone who requires help at the port or on board their ships through prior arrangement.

Only Stena Line operates the Stena HSS, the world’s largest fast ferry, which sails on the Holyhead-Dun Laoghaire, Stranraer-Belfast and Harwich-Hook of Holland routes (the fastest direct route to Holland). Superferries also operate on all routes and you can choose to travel out to Ireland via one route/ferry and return via another.
