AWC North team were in Wakefield during the last weekend in April and what a busy weekend it turned out to be!
The course was run in partnership with Steve Greatorex, an Advisory Teacher for PE Development for Children with Physical Difficulties. Over the weekend 19 young wheelchair users and 3 adult wheelchair users came along to learn new skills and join in the wheelchair games. A large number of parents and siblings also joined in the activities.
As we had manual and powered wheelchair users in attendance, we had parallel training sessions running, with everyone joining together for the games and wheelchair dancing. We also tried out a slalom assault course racing against the clock, which was really popular.
The youngest wheelchair user to attend was just 4 years old. Dylan had been on an AWC course last year. It was great to see him moving around so confidently in his new chair, which Wheelchair services have issued, following a report from Roy.
Another young lad, Aaron, is looking forward to the arrival of this new chair this week. This was also due Roy writing a report. We would like to say a big thank you to Steve for all his hard work in helping to make the weekend such a great success -
We have had loads of very positive feedback from everyone!
